In the spring of 2001, I was chosen as one of the photographers for the Millenium Project of the primary school in Lisdoonvarna, County Clare, Ireland. The purpose of the school’s project was to document the students, school, and community as it was at the turn of the twenty-first century. I chose to do this by documenting the students. Students were asked to position themselves within the frame of the camera however they saw fit. I was particularly interested in the students’ body language. What would be revealed by their poses? Could the viewer extrapolate who in a given photo were friends and who were not? Would the children behave differently in an all-female or all-male group than they would in a co-ed group?
